Renewing your trademark.

A trademark encompasses any distinctive expression associated with a product or service, setting it apart from others. This expression may take the form of a word, slogan, image, logo, design, color combination, sound, or even a scent.

Registered trademarks have a validity period of 10 years. After this period, they require renewal. There’s no need to fret if you happen to forget the renewal date, as you will receive a prior notification at your registered office regarding the trademark’s renewal. Often, companies overlook this important step. In such cases, the Registrar will issue a reminder six months before the expiration date. However, if no action is taken on your part, the Registrar will notify you that your trademark will be removed from the Trade Marks Journal. This process is quite lengthy and typically takes between 6 to 12 months after the expiration date. To avoid this, you can renew your trademark by simply paying the required fine to the department.
