Registering as an Income Taxpayer
  1. Prerequisite for Individual Users – Prior to initiating the registration process, individuals should ensure they have the following documents on hand: a valid PAN card, contact number, present address, and a valid email address.

Process of Individual User Registration – To register as an individual taxpayer, follow these steps:

  • Visit the website https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ and access the e-Filing Portal.

  • On the homepage, locate and click on the ‘Register Yourself’ option situated on the right side.

  • Select ‘individual’ as the user type and proceed to the next page.

  • Provide the necessary details of the individual, including name, PAN, date of birth, and residential address.

  • Enter a password, contact details, and the present address. Once all the details are provided, click on the ‘Submit’ button.

  • Upon completion of the registration, a six-digit OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number and email ID.

  • Enter the OTP to finalize the taxpayer registration process.

2.Requirements for Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) – The following details are necessary for HUF registration:

  • PAN card
  • Contact details of the Karta (head of the family)
  • Email address of the Karta

Process of HUF Registration – The registration process for HUF is similar to that of individual users, with the following variations:

  • While registering, select the user type as ‘Hindu Undivided Family (HUF)’ and proceed.

  • Provide the PAN details of the HUF, along with the HUF’s name and date of incorporation.

  • Similar to the individual user process, provide a password, PAN details of the Karta, contact details of the Karta, and address proof of the HUF.

  • A six-digit OTP will be sent to the specified mobile number and email ID during the registration process.

  • Enter the correct OTP to complete the registration.

3.Registration for Entities other than Individual Users and HUF – The following requirements must be fulfilled for registration:

  • PAN card details
  • Contact number details
  • Email address of the principal contact person
