What does GSTIN stand for?
- GSTIN, or the Goods and Services Tax Identification Number, is a distinctive 15-character alphanumeric code assigned to every Firm, Company, or Individual registered under the GST system.
- The government has emphasized a digital approach to GST to enhance transparency and reduce corruption significantly.
- The first two digits of the GSTIN signify the state code, allocated based on the 2011 census.
- The subsequent ten digits represent the entity's Permanent Account Number (PAN).
- The 14th character is consistently 'Z' as a default.
- The 15th and final digit is the Checksum digit, automatically generated through calculations involving the other 14 digits.
